How Press Releases Can Help with Social Proof?

What Is Social Proof? I get asked this a lot by prospective clients. Or, they tell me, “I need social proof. Can you help me get it with a press release?” The answer to the latter question is a firm “maybe.” Social proof is about how we tend to behave in ways we see others behave, especially in situations where we are unsure how to act. That could describe a great deal of Internet business. We come to an e-commerce site and wonder, “Is this place legit? Can I trust them with my credit card?” Social proof, in the form of a media story about the e-commerce store, can provide that all-important confidence buyers need before they commit. Press releases and media coverage can help with this, but press attention can be challenging to get in today’s crowded media environment. This video explores the issue and offers some insights into how you can get social proof with public relations—in most, but not all cases.
